Jonny joined Heatherlea as a guide in 2001, working in his native area amongst wildlife and the outdoors. A first class field naturalist, Jonny's excellent botanical and invertebrate skills complemented his birding ability. Sustained by his strong religious faith, Jonny was an inspiration, not least to those who joined him in enjoyment of our wonderful Scottish natural history. His tales, good humour, and caring personality will always be remembered by everyone who knew him. Jonny was committed to many good works, particularly his effort for the poor in Haiti. Our Hogmanay Birding Festival Tues 28 Dec 2021 - Tues 4 Jan 2022 was held in memory of Jonny, and this donation is made from the proceeds of the tour. RIP Jonny.

My husband and I first met Jonny on one of the Spring into Scotland trips, his knowledge was boundless and his humour fantastic, he really made us want to keep coming back and we did. As we got to know him it was clear that his faith was a huge part of his life and I know that undoubtedly he is in a most joyous place along with my husband, Paul. He will be hugely missed.

It was always so good to catch up with Jonny even briefly as he was so interested and wanted to talk. I will treasure the history lessons delivered at speed together with the treasures of the Highlands. Michael

Dear Jonny, friend and fellow Leo. I will always remember our last words at the station on my way back to Cambridge His laugh which turned into a giggle and the day it rained so hard on our way back from Orkney when he was the only one who would get out of the minibus to look for birds. May the cresties always look over him.

Johnny was the first member of Heatherlea I met on my first adventure in 2003. He collected me from the station and was a guide on this trip. He was a brilliant driver but very fast and I have fond memories of a white knuckle day trip to Mull! One of a kind, a true gentleman.
