John loved everything to do with nature especially the birds, trees and hillwalking in the Cairngorm and Grampian mountains where he developed a passion for photography. He was also a long standing member of the British Cactus Society and got great pleasure in growing cacti from seed distributed by the society, many of these plants were over 30 years old on his death. Most of his collection was donated to the Cactus Society for distribution to the members
