A Grove of trees in the Scottish Highlands
The Grove of the Ancient Archer
Douglas E. Gray
Sept. 8, 1938-Sept. 28, 2016

Doug Gray, 78, was an avid outdoorsman and adventurer, a hunter and fisherman who deeply appreciated and was respectful of nature and life. The Grove of the Ancient Archer will continue to grow as the people he loved and who loved him deeply honor his memory and his pride in his Scottish heritage.

Doug Gray of Grand Junction, Colorado, U.S., was a masterful huntsman and an avid outdoorsman with an unwavering respect for wildlife and the land. Proud of his Scottish heritage and an ancestor of the Sutherland clan, Doug was a lifelong bowman who shared his archery skills and passion with his family and his many, many good friends found through the flight of an arrow. While Doug lived, he never visited his ancestral land, but he was a student of his family history and all Scottish history, and he possessed the tenacity, loyalty and grit embodying a Highlander. He was a true Scot. Doug – deeply loved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend – left us Sept. 28, 2016, at age 78. Yet his spirit is very much alive and continues to grow in those he treasured and who treasured him in return, and now in The Grove of the Ancient Archer in the Caledonian Forest of Scotland. He is free to wander its hills unencumbered and appreciate its beauty alongside his beloved dogs, and we know his heart soars like a hawk.
