The Trees of Life

Our latest Volunteer Voice is a little different to usual – a beautiful poem by Long-Term Volunteer James McDonnell – The Trees of Life. We love it! Also included are some photos from his time at our Dundreggan Conservation Estate.

The Trees of Life

O Bonnie Scotland, O so fair,

But where’s the wolves, and where’s the bears?

And where’s the lynx, and where’s the boar?

Alas we went and killed them all.

And where are all the forests green?

What did we do with all those trees?

Yes all the oaks and all the pines,

To build the ships and prop the mines.

But is this why we’re really here,

To just destroy and kill in fear?

Or could there be another way,

To live at one with all that’s made?

To care and love all living things,

And live at one as human beings.

To put our pride and fear aside,

And once again embrace the wild,

To live no more in woe and strife,

And plant the trees………….the trees of life.
