This grove is created in memory of our daughter Eva, who was stillborn on 24th November 2019. When I was pregnant with Eva, I used to walk in the woodlands above our house and imagine what life would be like with our little baby. I would imagine taking her on walks there, wrapped up from the cold and snuggled against my chest. I wondered if she would recognise the sounds and smells of the forest and thought this would soothe her if she was crying. When she grew older, I imagined this would be a special place for her, as it is for me and Graeme. After she died, the woods were a source of solace for us. I liked to think of her not dead and gone, but as a part of nature once again. I would feel her spirit in the wind as it ran through the trees and soaring with the birds in the sky. She grew with the snowdrops as they pushed through the frozen earth in spring and bloomed in the heather in the last hazy days of summer. Although Eva will always be a baby, it makes us happy to think that the trees that are planted in her name will grow tall and strong in her place, providing shelter for all woodland creatures and giving comfort to others in need of it.
