Hello there! I'm Javier, representing Caribbean Goods. Ever since I was a child, I've had a deep admiration for trees. My passion led me to plant my first seedling back in 2011, which has since grown into a magnificent pine tree gracing my parents' backyard. Two of my strongest life calls are promoting education and making our planet greener. The name of my home country, Guatemala, comes from the Kʼicheʼ word "many trees" (a Mayan language of Guatemala, spoken by the Kʼicheʼ people of the central highlands) I guess I had it in my blood! The inception of Caribbean Goods was driven by my desire to align my endeavours with these life missions. Three years ago, we embarked on an exciting journey by importing coffee from Hunbatz, a collective of small farmers nestled in the picturesque mountains of Huehuetenango. These remarkable individuals are not only talented coffee growers but also incredibly gracious and kind-hearted. In an effort to support them and encourage more coffee roasters to buy their coffee, I made a pledge. For every 30kg sack of green coffee purchased of Hunbatz, I committed to donating a tree on behalf of the buyer. Throughout the years, we were having problems with accountability and traceability of the trees. Beginning this year, we have chosen Trees for Life as our traceability platform. At the close of each year, we will total the number of trees donated and celebrate the positive change we are bringing to the world, together with the fantastic roasters who stand by our cause. This grove is a small gift that my wife (Victoria) and I want to give back to this planet. It is the inception of GALM (Gutierrez Abril - Larrieu Marinakys). An acronym we will use to give back to the world.
