As part of my 50 things to do at 50, I wanted to have 50 trees planted to help restore the Caledonian Forest in Scotland. Growing up in Scotland I have fond memories of enjoying forestry commission trails all over the country with my family. My brother and I took turns to carry the backpack and we ran ahead of my parents, making signs with twigs and branches to point the way to go. In June of this year (2019) I spent two weeks in Scotland with my husband and our two Labradors, we walked a good many miles and I loved looking at the tree covered hills and enjoy some wonderful walks through woods, forests and glens. The environment, sustainability and of course Scotland (being a Mactavish) are all subjects I feel passionately about, so what better way to combine them and to make a difference. I am starting my little grove with 12 trees, the plan is to grow it to at least 50 by the end of the year. Beyond that, who knows, maybe a whole mountainside? ? Janet x
