James Morgan Brown was a queer, working class, Glasgow socialist.
A friend of Edward Carpenter, he was also a Theosophist and a practitioner of “the dear love of comrades”.
In poor health, in the 1880s he would “wander thro’ the woods of Aberuchill stark naked – the sensation is something delicious” and imagining “deep-eyed Naiads with green water-weeds in their hair”.
