The Living Mountain

Add to this grove
A grove in honour of Nan Shepherd, author of 'The Living Mountain'. The Living Mountain was written by Aberdonian Nan Shepherd in the 1940s and it sat in her desk drawer until it was published in 1977.  It is a timeless and evocative account of the Cairngorm mountain range in Scotland, and is so much more than a book about mountains. Its relatively few pages eloquently convey the essence of the Cairngorms, their landscape and geology, plants and animals, water and weathers, as well as the sheer joy of being outdoors in the wild. The Living Mountain is a journey into wilderness, connections, and being.   Thanks for taking the time to visit this grove, Jenny Sturgeon   photos by Anne Campbell, photo of Nan courtesy of the Nan Shepherd estate
