Our memories of Noel and Wendy are of two lovely, gentle, cultured, artistic people who were lovers of beauty and nature. This grove is a beautiful way to commemorate them and to honour their lives.

Noel passed away in February 2008, and Wendy in July 2017. Together they had a long and very happy marriage. After adventurous travels, they lived in New Zealand, Australia and then in England. They had three children, Gill, Graham and Brian, and three grandchildren, Matthew, Elena and Meg. As well as their great and generous love of their family, they expressed love for other people by hosting many visitors over the years, and by supporting children's charities, and Wendy by working as a nursery teacher. They also very much appreciated the arts, visiting exhibitions and Noel taking up pottery as a serious hobby. Perhaps their longest-standing shared passion was for natural landscapes and gardening. They enjoyed looking out over their flourishing garden in London, watching the birds that they fed, and remembering gardens and plants they had known on the other side of the world. Noel's family originated in Scotland, having migrated to New Zealand and settled as farmers. The Scottish highland landscape was badly damaged by deforestation, and its tenant farmers were evicted from the land, leading many, such as the McKenzies, to migrate to new worlds. It is very suitable that a grove should be named in their memory, to restore life to a small patch of Scottish ground, to allow myriad insects and birds to thrive together. Further donations to add to the grove will be very welcome. Alternatively, or in addition, you may wish to donate to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
