“It reconnected me with nature and reminded me how unimportant my daily worries are. It helped make new connections and be part of a wonderful little community for a week. My mind and body feel so much more relaxed than usual.”

Ian Yates

Tree Nursery Rewilding Weeks offers you the opportunity to be at the heart of our rewilding operations, helping to grow the wild Caledonian forest of the future.

Held at Dundreggan, a 10,000 acre estate that is owned by Trees for Life in Glenmoriston, near Loch Ness. The nursery is idyllically located near wildflower meadows and tranquil birch woodlands. We grow a range there of native trees for planting at our project sites, including rare species such as dwarf birch and woolly willow, and are trialling innovative ways to grow aspen, a beautiful but rare tree found in the Caledonian forest. The varied activities include preparing and sowing seeds, potting and pricking out seedlings, helping with innovative propagation techniques, seed sorting and more.

The Work

You will be helping to grow the wild Caledonian forest of the future by propagating rare and endangered species. The varied activities including preparing and sowing seeds, potting and pricking out seedlings, helping with innovative propagation techniques, seed sorting and more. Work starts just after 9 am and finishes at about 5 pm. The day provides regular opportunities for breaks as well as an hour for lunch.

Accommodation

Accommodation is located in Dundreggan Lodge. The lodge is situated on the southern boundary of Dundreggan, overlooking the River Moriston. This comfortable and warm building has three bunkrooms, a well appointed kitchen, a large lounge/dining area, two en-suite shower rooms and two other shower/toilets. There is hot water for the end of a hard day’s work, and drying areas for wet clothes.

The Common Room has a large wood burner for cosy evenings in – and on clear evenings we can light the fire outside. You will also have access to our growing library and equipment such as camera traps, microscope, bat detectors, and moth traps.
